QUOTE #3 FROM THE EVERYDAY MOTHER

Raise your words, not your voice - inspirational quote

Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.

We've been dealing with some behavior issues with #LittleRichieM, and I almost wonder if an alien came in and took over my sweet little boy's body. Perhaps that alien is just a typical 2.5 year old's SASS.

We're fortunate to have a behavior therapist who has been seeing Richie since shortly after we brought him home from the NICU. She constantly reminds us to keep our voices tender. Granted, that's hard to do when he's throwing his food, hitting his toys, and refusing to nap. But every time I catch myself getting ready to yell, I remind myself that I, even as an adult, respond so much better when I'm not being yelled at. And so, with a deep breath, I firmly/tenderly say, "Richie, I see you're angry. Why don’t we try to relax and play with your flashcards (his favorite decompressor). First, let's clean up three toys, then we'll do your flashcards". <---- when our therapist recommended this approach, I was a non-believer. But it works WAY better than I expected!
