TIP #32 FROM THE EVERYDAY MOTHER

Why children need boundaries

Children NEED boundaries to ground them.

When my son was in the NICU, and I was learning how to hold his tiny 2lb body for skin-to-skin, I remember the nurses always reminding me to give him boundaries. "Don't let him flail," they'd say, "he needs to know you're there. He needs the support, it helps his neurological system."

For the past three years, we've also had Early Intervention therapy for my son, including a behavior therapist. Every single time we've hit a behavior issue with my son, it seems to always come back to the same lesson: children NEED boundaries.
